Dr. Maurice Ghysels joined Menlo Park City School District in July 2011. Before joining Menlo Park, he was the Chief Schools Officer at the Santa Clara County Office of Education for one year and prior to that, was the Superintendent of the Mountain View Whisman School District from 2005 - 2010. Dr. Ghysels started his career as a high school teacher, then vice principal, principal, and finally Superintendent. He took a brief break from public education in 1996 – 2001 when he gained executive experience in corporate and a startup. His passion and commitment for student achievement, wellness and success are the reasons he returned to public education in 2001.
Dr. Ghysels completed his undergraduate work in Economics at San Jose State University and a Doctorate in Educational Organization Development and Leadership from the University of San Francisco. He also was an adjunct professor in the Doctoral program of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University.
Dr. Ghysels enjoys the outdoors. During the Spring, you will see him frequently ride his bike to work not only to support the environment, but to enjoy the beautiful community of Menlo Park. Besides passionate about teaching and learning, Maurice also has a love of the arts, playing the guitar and drums, along with singing whenever he can find the chance.
