GRANT COSCIA - HUMANITIES CORE TEACHER
I am delighted to start my third year at Hillview Middle School as a 6th grade CORE teacher with Everest Academy.
This is my third year at Hillview, and I still believe I was destined to teach here. I grew up on the east coast in Connecticut within the Farmington public school system; a school system with a similar mission and vision to MPCSD. I graduated from St. Michael's College in Colchester VT with a BA in History and a Secondary Education Teaching Credential. I was also inducted into the National History Honor Society (Phi Alpha Theta) while at St. Mike's. Shortly thereafter, I started teaching history at a private school in Williston, Vermont for students with learning differences.
Upon moving to California, I worked in various teaching/substitute positions and worked vigorously to acquire my multiple subject, single subject English teaching credentials, and 6 Traits of Writing Certification. My first teaching position at Fischer Middle School in Alum Rock Union Elementary School District had me practicing my craft as a Reading/Language Arts and history teacher (one year only). Being a passionate and dedicated fan, I also enjoyed coaching soccer for 2 years at Fischer. If you want to know what team I support, please ask!
On a personal note, I grew up in YMCA camps where strong, positive, character was fostered within me daily. I have been fortunate enough to have been involved in youth work for seventeen years now, from Vermont all the way to the UK. I look forward to helping my 6th-grade students develop as positive members of society that have robust moral compasses and critical and analytical thinking skills.
