BRIAN DARMANIN - Student Activities Director, Broadcast Director

  •  Darmanin

Hello! I'm Brian Darmanin and I have proudly served as the Student Activities Director and the Broadcast Director for the Hillview community since 2011. Together with the work of our amazing students and supportive community, our students have done some incredible things including raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank, Make-A-Wish, Relay For Life, and so much more. Our Video Production team at Hillview Television has won national awards by the Student Television Network, placing in the top 5 in the USA multiple times.

One of my roles as Broadcast Director is to instruct students in broadcast journalism techniques and storytelling. In Video Production classes, I believe in empowering students to create content and tell stories for our daily live morning announcements, HawkTalk, and produce our bi-weekly news entertainment broadcast, HVTV. (see more:

I also teach our youngest Hawks in the 6th grade Character Strong Leadership classes which can best be described as a Middle School Survival Kit. Here, we develop leadership assets and encourage students to get out of their comfort zones while building their confidence. Using restorative circles, games, projects, videos, and discussion, we focus on developing 8 character traits of a leader: Honesty, Humility, Respect, Kindness, Forgiveness, Committment, Selfelessness, and Patience.

As activities director, it also my role to serve as advisor to our Associated Student Body (ASB), more commonly known as Student Council. I guide our 8th grade student leaders to plan many of our activities, spirit games, dances, service projects, clubs, and school events such as the 6th Grade Welcome Party, Halloween, Music in the Quad, the Talent Show, and the famous end of the year festival, Hawkapalooza. We also hold formal meetings, develop budgets, and plan fundraisers. The students make the decisions; the school administration, ASB bookkeeper, and I assist and advise as necessary. (see more:
