  • Dear Encinal School Community,

As we close out this school year, we can take a moment to reflect on all that our community has accomplished through what has been one roller coaster ride this year. Together we have weathered this storm, and together we have provided our students with a meaningful school experience mostly filled with empathy, perseverance, and joy.

Although this year had many bumps along the way, together we learned how to persevere when things were challenging and less enjoyable. Together we learned how to be creative and find new ways to solve problems. From a very popular PTO drive through Halloween event, a super successful One Community Campaign, to our Virtual 3rd-5th Musical Production of the Lion King Kings, to ending the year on a high note with our school-wide 5th grade Clap Around yesterday, we should all be so proud of our entire school community.

    At Encinal

Through all the ups and downs we kept a laser focus on creating anti-racist classrooms, schools, and communities through teacher professional learning communities and through our site Windows and Mirrors initiative.  We’ve already planned on expanding this work next year with community reads in every classroom that will focus on identity, empathy, and advocacy. We launched our new school mission and eight learner aims: curiosity, empathy, collaboration, critical thinking, self-awareness, advocacy, perseverance, literacy that will help us accomplish our mission.  Here’s a sneak peek into some of our new graphics that students will become familiar with next year.  A huge shout-out goes to our very own resident graphic artist and Encinal staff member Dezi Donnersbach who created these engaging posters to represent our work. We can’t wait for our students to see them next year!

    Core Values

This year was unique in countless ways. We hope your family will purchase an Encinal yearbook this year. It will serve as a lifetime reminder that together we can persevere through challenging times. Thank you to Encinal parent Sara Teeple for the countless volunteer hours it took to create our very special yearbook. Did you know that the more yearbooks we purchase together as a community, the more scholarship yearbooks we can distribute?

Thank you to Atherton Library for sending a brand new book home with every Encinal child.

Thank you to all of our students, parents, staff, superintendent, school board for an extraordinary year under extraordinary circumstances.

And now for the best news of all: Next year we are planning for a much more normal year. Our bell schedule will be back to pre-pandemic times, on-site volunteer opportunities, community-building events, kinder playdates, on site lunch program options, and more opportunities for students to enjoy choice recess and lunch options.

Wishing everyone a summer break filled with rest, enjoyment, and love.

    We are Encinal Strong!

    Much Love,

    Principal Burns
