• FINAL WEEK! Find Larry & Feed a Laurel Family in Need! Thanksgiving Drive 2020

Find Larry & Feed a Laurel Family in Need! Thanksgiving Drive 2020

Donate now to DOUBLE your donation by activating a $1,000 matching grant

to feed 55 Laurel families in need this Thanksgiving!

Thanks to the generosity of a Laurel family, we have a $1,000 matching grant! Donations will activate this matching grant dollar-for-dollar through THIS Friday, November 20, doubling your impact!

STUDENTS! Find Larry the Laurel Turkey…

** Additionally, your children can activate the matching grant by finding Larry the Laurel Turkey. Since this year they can’t find Larry in person as they have in the past, we are taking the search virtual! Your students can search the Laurel newsletters today and next week to find Larry hiding somewhere within the newsletter. Every time Larry is found, the students who find him will unlock a $5 donation and add their name to the donor board. Once found, please email your student’s name/grade and where they found him in the newsletter to the Caring & Sharing team: caring_and_sharing@laurelpto.org.**

Your donations will enable the Caring & Sharing team to provide each family with a $50 grocery gift card for Thanksgiving, as well as to support our scholarship program and other needs.

    How to Donate:

    • PayPal - donate online via PayPal here

    • Cash* or Check* (made payable to "Laurel School PTO” with “Caring & Sharing” in the memo line)

    • Grocery Gift Card* (Safeway or Trader Joe’s)

    * Enclose in an envelope labeled "Thanksgiving Drive," and drop off at carline or in the turkey donation box at the front office of either campus.

Donations are needed by Friday, November 20!
If you have any questions, please contact the Caring & Sharing team: caring_and_sharing@laurelpto.org.

Want to learn more about developing your child’s mathematical brain? Spend a morning with us to learn how the simple routine of counting collections at home can help your child build confidence as a mathematician and flexibility with our number system. In this session, you will meet other parents, experiment with hands-on math, and walk away ready to start this fun and powerful math routine at home. Please bring one collection of items to our Zoom—a jar of screws, a box of paperclips, a bag of legos, or anything else you can find around the home. We look forward to learning with you!

Feel free to join us at any of these other times/days if the Laurel time does not work for you. All presentations will be the same.

Get Ready to Celebrate the First Virtual "Cultural Family Night" with the Menlo Park Spanish World Language Teachers!

When? The week of November 16th. Your family decides when! A video will be sent out on Monday, November 16th.

Why? Let’s celebrate a traditional Spanish family “get-together” by cooking the famous “Paella Valenciana” dish alongside Señora Malone and her neighbor Edith from Spain.  Learn some interesting facts about Valencia, and the history of paella (pronounced pa/Eh/yah).

What will my family need to do to prepare? If you are planning on cooking the paella dish together while watching the virtual “Cultural Family Night” video, then click on this link for the list of ingredients you’ll need to get beforehand.

What else? Another recommended item: A paellera (a paella pan, specific to cooking paella), which can be purchased online at Amazon or Target and at most cooking stores. Otherwise any wide, shallow skillet will do the job!

Materials Needed:  See below for the ingredients list as well as other materials to gather.
