Connect With Us
As published in Community Matters Quarterly, October 2017
We are a community-funded district, which makes our relationship a true partnership. There are many ways in which to connect with MPCSD, including our Speaker Series, Menlo Park Farmers Market, and student art shows at the MP Library.
We have also launched a new section of the MPCSD website dedicated to Media Literacy & FAQ. It is the place for real facts about the district's finances, plus more information on what we are doing to educate our students on how to navigate the vast array of media sources they are exposed to. Special thanks and recognition to the Finance & Audit team - Mark Box (Chair), Jeff Child, Steven Tonsfeldt, Jessica Baron, Sherwin Chen, David Ackerman (School Board Member), Fred Adam, Mary Beth Suhr, Betsy Campbell - that advises the school board on its financial matters. Advisory teams are another way community members engage with the district and bring their expertise to ensure we are utilizing the impressive professional resources in our community for the best interests of our district and kids.
Speaker Series:
You are invited to join us for any of our Parent Education Speaker Series events. The series is back with a stellar line-up for the new school year. Events include inspiring and educational talks by Sheryl Sandberg, author of Option B and founder of OptionB.org, Michael Gurian, renowned educator, family counselor, and New York Times bestselling author, and other experts on issues from anxiety and depression to parenting our "digital natives." Click here for complete event descriptions and more information. All events are free to the public and are held at Hillview Middle School PAC.
Farmers Market:
Superintendent Burmeister will be joined by other district staff as he hosts an information table monthly at our very own Menlo Park Farmers Market. Please stop by the table to share your thoughts, ask questions, and connect with MPCSD staff. We want to hear from you and be accessible to you – so come say hello on any of these dates: November 19, December 17, January 14, February 11, March 18, April 22, May 20 during regular Market hours.
Burgess Library Art Show:
Our district art teachers will curate art shows from every one of our schools – Laurel, Encinal, Oak Knoll, and Hillview on a monthly rotating basis. Thanks to generous community financial support, MPCSD has credentialed art teachers at every campus and every district student has access to high-quality art instruction. You will be amazed by the talent of our students. During the month of October, the exhibit features charcoal drawings of images from Hurricane Harvey. Stop by the Burgess Library any time to admire art created by the students of our community.
