Questions about Shared Equipment & Spaces (Tech & Play, Bathrooms, Outdoor Areas)

  • Q: Will there be any sharing of supplies/equipment among students?

A: Student Belongings: Each child’s belongings will be kept separated from other students. No personal items may be brought inside the classroom or shared between students. Teachers will have individual ways to accomplish this, such as labeled cubbies, hooks, storage bins, etc. Please be sure to label all your child’s personal belongings.

Technology Equipment: Technology, to the extent possible, will be assigned to specific students or at least specific cohorts. When shared, equipment will be cleaned between each use and students will wash their hands before/after using equipment.

Art and other classroom supplies: Classroom materials like pencils, markers, glue sticks, etc. will be used by individual students or within cohorts only. Art room supplies will be cleaned between all uses and students will wash hands before/after using.

Recess and Play Equipment: Each stable cohort will have its own set of playground and PE equipment, funded by the PTO. The set will be kept in the classroom and only brought out for use by that cohort. Students will wash hands before/after using this equipment.

Playground structures will not be closed; however, specific cohorts will be assigned days/weeks to use the equipment. While playground equipment will be cleaned periodically, students will be required to wash their hands before and after use, and will practice physical distancing while using playground structures as the primary means of protection from contagion.

Water Fountains: Water fountains will be closed. Students may bring their own water bottles.

Q: Will bathroom usage be limited to decrease exposure?

A: Bathrooms will be disinfected 3x/day. Student bathrooms will be assigned to specific cohorts. A yard duty will be posted at each bathroom during recess and lunch. Face masks are required in bathrooms and physical distancing must be maintained as much as practicable. Students must wash their hands with soap and water after using the bathroom. No more than two people at a time are allowed in bathrooms.

Q: How will MPCSD utilize its outdoor spaces to maximize health and safety?

A: Entry/exit ways, hallways and passing spaces: Schools may designate one-way paths throughout campus. Please follow signs. Face masks are required in these spaces. Physical distancing of six feet should be maintained when possible.

Outdoor areas: Classes may use outdoor spaces as weather permits for lessons. Eating areas will be marked for use by one cohort at a time. Face masks are required during outdoor class time, but not during eating breaks.

Fields and play structure areas: Fields will be used for PE and recess/lunch with cohorts using dedicated areas. Face masks are not required during recreation or PE. Physical distancing of six feet should be maintained when possible. Playground equipment will not be closed; however, specific cohorts will be assigned days/weeks to use the equipment. While playground equipment will be cleaned periodically, students will be required to wash their hands before and after use, and will practice physical distancing while using playground equipment as the primary means of protection from contagion.
