6th Grade & New Student: Parent Orientation

Parents of both 6th graders and of students new to MPCSD are welcome to join our Zoom orientation on Wednesday, August 18 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Our administration will help guide parents through what to expect over the coming weeks and the school year, in addition to answering any questions. Note: The content for this presentation will be similar to our 5th grade family orientations in April and May. We feel it is beneficial for parents to hear information more than once and to get additional context, and you are welcome to skip it if you feel confident in your knowledge. On Campus Protocols

With guidance from the Pandemic Recovery Framework Hillview is adopting the following protocols:

    • Masks will be required indoors for all staff and students regardless of age or vaccination status. Students with a medical condition that prevents wearing a mask MUST obtain a medical exemption from a qualified physician in order to attend in-person classes.
    • While not required, student and staff mask use outdoors will be encouraged until children are able to receive the vaccine and/or spread of the virus declines significantly.
    • While there is not a mandatory social distancing requirement, Hillview will encourage 3ft distancing whenever possible especially during eating.
    • All eating and drinking must take place outside.
    • There will be no daily online health screener at this point; however, we ask that parents manually survey their student’s health each morning and if exhibiting symptoms the student is required to stay home (report an absence here.)
    • Students will arrive and depart at the same time and there are no assigned entry points.
    • Parents who volunteer on-campus are required to show proof of vaccination (more information on how to submit proof is forthcoming).

    TDAP Vaccine Requirement (7th Grade)

All incoming 7th graders in the 2021-22 school year are required by law to provide proof of a whooping cough booster shot (Tdap), administered on or after the 7th birthday (Td does not meet the requirement), a second dose of Varicella (chicken pox), or if your child has had Varicella, a medical exemption document from CAIR-ME. Please read the following carefully.

In order to receive a class schedule and to avoid exclusion on the first day of school, provide an updated copy of your child's immunization record with your child's first and last name, date of birth, proof of Tdap administered on or after the 7th birthday, and a second dose of Varicella. Do not mark the record

If your child has had the Varicella disease, or if there is a medical reason why your child cannot be vaccinated, any medical exemption on file will no longer be valid due to a new immunization law that went into effect on January 1, 2021.

To request a two-page CAIR-ME document, you must follow the instructions for parents on the CDPH CAIR ME website  https://cair.cdph.ca.gov/exemptions/home

Provide the record by email to Nancy McMahon, Health Services Assistant, at nmcmahon@mpcsd.org, by fax to 650-292-2200, or bring a hard copy to the school office 1-2 weeks prior to the start of school.

ACT NOW and avoid the back-to-school rush! For more information, visit the Shots for School website at shotsforschool.org.

    • If you purchased from the webstore previously, you already have an account. When you get to the main page, use your email address and password to log in. If you forgot your password, click the "Forgot your password?" button to reset.

    • If you are new to Hillview OR you haven't made a webstore purchase, you need to create an account. Use this link to access instructions for creating an account: Webstore Instructions

    • You will need your student's ALTERNATE STUDENT ID NUMBER to set up your account. You should have received an email with your student’s alternate student ID number. Please have this number ready when you are creating your account.

    School Supplies

For the 2021-22 school year, our approach will be to ask students to bring some very basic supplies for the first days of school. Our materials lists are outdated, and need to be revised to reflect our in-person program. Teachers will provide students more detailed materials lists in the initial days, and give a deadline for obtaining those materials. Please note that Hillview stands ready to provide any and all materials for families who need them. Please view the recommended school supplies.

Here are some instructions on how to create an account. If you already have an account, simply log in with your parent username and password.

Schoology is the Learning Management System (LMS) that all students and staff use to manage assignments. Parents have a parent account that gives them oversight into their student’s work.  6th grade families and new families will be emailed login information during the first week of school.

PowerSchool is our Student Information System (SIS). It provides both achievement and attendance information to students and parents (please note that Schoology may be a more accurate reflection of a student’s achievement, depending on the class). Hot Lunch

Hillview will offer a hot lunch program starting in the fall with prepackaged cold lunches with the hope to transition to “hot” sometime in the middle of the year.  Through August families will receive boxed meal kits in the carpool lane on Mondays at Encinal Elementary School (4-6 pm at 195 Encinal Ave.) Starting in September, our plan is to offer on-campus lunches. Families need to make sure they pack lunch every day for their children until the kitchens open September 7, after which students can pick up daily meals from the kitchen on each campus. To order hot lunch visit Hot Lunch: Lunchmaster

The Hot Lunch program is also in need of parent volunteers to help with daily lunch distribution. Debi Rice, our district Hot Lunch coordinator, sent out a sign up via Parent Square. NOTE: All volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated before being on campus in any volunteer capacity.
