Oak Knoll 3rd-5th Grade BasketballProgramIf your son or daughter is a 3rd, 4th or 5th grader, he or she is eligible to play on an Oak Knoll basketball team! We participate in recreational leagues offered by the City of Menlo Park and organized by the Oak Knoll After School Sports Program. Each child will learn the basic skills of the game in a fun and encouraging environment on teams coached by parent volunteers. The season runs from November through March.Registration: 9/30 - 10/14Registration is open from Sunday, September 30 to Sunday, October 14. Register here. Please note: All registrations are timestamped. In the event we do not have enough coaches, players will be placed on a wait list (by registration time) until we are able to find more parent volunteers. We will, of course, make every effort to find additional coaches as necessary to avoid the waitlist process.
Cost$125 registration fee for the season. Scholarships are available - please contact Cathy Petersen in the Oak Knoll office for more information.
** Beginner's Clinic: 10/1 and 10/3 **If your son or daughter has never played organized basketball and wants to try it, we will be holding a free and optional beginner's clinic. Any 3rd-5th graders who have never played organized basketball are invited to attend:
The clinic will be a fun and supportive experience where new players can learn basic skills and play games with other beginners. If interested, please RSVP to Jenni Djafari so that we can plan accordingly.

These are NOT tryouts. Every child will be placed on a team as long as we have enough coaches. This will be for PLAYERS ONLY; parents are asked not to observe. The Skills Assessment is mandatory for all players, whether new or returning. If your child has an unavoidable conflict, please contact Sherwin Chen immediately to determine whether a make-up session is available.
Parent CoachesThe Oak Knoll School Basketball program is run entirely by parent volunteers. We need parents to volunteer to be coaches! No coaching experience is necessary. Become coach and share an unforgettable experience with your child!!! Sign up when you register your child or email Sherwin Chen to learn more.
Practice Times and Schedule ConflictsPractices will be held twice a week at Oak Knoll starting in November. Practices may be scheduled on weekdays (starting any time from after school to 7pm) and/or on weekends (starting any time from 8am to 7pm). Practice times will be determined by each team's coaches when teams are formed on November 5 and will be communicated to families shortly thereafter. Please note: Accommodations cannot be made for schedule conflicts once teams are formed. It is therefore very important that, during the registration process, you list all possible schedule conflicts that may preclude your child from attending practices or games during the season. We will attempt to minimize conflicts when teams are formed. After registering, if there are any schedule changes for your child, please email them to Alison Matthews.
Game ScheduleWeekly games are expected to begin the week of December 3rd and end in March. Games are scheduled by the league and will be played at Arrillaga Family Gymnasium (600 Alma Street, Menlo Park) on Saturdays, with the exception of 5th grade girls, who play on Thursdays.
