  • Be a PTO Volunteer and help the Encinal community!

     

    Being a PTO volunteer is rewarding and fun!  You will be making an immediate impact and directly contributing to our great community.  Plus, you’ll have fun meeting the teachers and staff as well as other Encinal parents!

    COMMITTEES

     

    Volunteering for a committee is a great way to contribute to the Encinal community, learn about our awesome students, teachers, staff, and parents, and have fun!  Click on the committee name to email the committee chair.


    After-school Activities:  Manages, schedules, and contracts for all after-school programs (math, chess, foreign language, art, drama, hoops, etc.); ensures program compliance with school safety and protocol requirements.


    After-school Athletic Teams:  Fall sports include boys’ and girls’ volleyball for boys.  Winter sports include boys’ and girls’ basketball.  All students are eligible to participate and all teams are sponsored by the Menlo Park Recreation Department. Coaches are parent volunteers.

     
    Art Coordinator: Supports Art teacher and organizes the class coordinators to aid the Art Specialist. Coordinates the display of student art at the Fine Arts Festival. 

    Book Fair: An annual event to raise supplementary money for general PTO programs and the Encinal library. 


    Business Alliance: Administers and promotes programs to raise additional money for the Encinal PTO (Box Tops for Education, Honey Bear Trees, etc.). (Planning can be done remotely.) 

     
    Caring & Sharing: Coordinates the Thanksgiving and Holiday Food Drives, and clothing drives. Promotes activities to encourage and develop children's awareness of others' needs, both at school and in the community. 

    Cultural Arts Day: Plan and organize volunteers to produce a full day of fun and activities highlighting the culture of one area of the world, including guest speakers, music and dancing, food tasting, a cultural museum, crafts and more.


    Emergency Preparedness: Working with the Encinal Vice Principal, organizes supplies and upgrades our school plan in case of disaster. 


    Fall Family Picnic: A fun family day to give students and families an opportunity to get acquainted/reacquainted and celebrate the return to school.


    Family Fun Nights: Schedules and advertises school-wide social events to promote a closer community, this includes dances and other community building events.


    Family Science Night: Coordinates Family Science Night, including the science fair. 


    Field Day: Aids the organizer with a fun end-of-year morning of sports and field activities with PE Specialist Ms. Morimune.


    Fifth Grade Celebration: Works with the 5th grade teachers to arrange the end-of-year celebration for 5th grade students. 


    Food for Thought: Food for Thought is an important part of our caring and sharing program. It is intended to ensure that every student has proper nutrition for a productive day at school by providing baskets of fruit for the office and all classrooms.  


    Garden Committee: Maintains the Encinal Children's garden.


    Harvest Festival: Organizes 4th and 5th grade harvest festival.


    Hospitality: Coordinates coffee and snacks for several PTO-sponsored events (Back-to-School coffee, Principal's coffees, etc.).  


    Hot Lunch: Coordinates the hot food lunch program (ChoiceLunch) and schedules volunteers to set up and serve lunch. 


    Kindergarten Playdates: Organizes playdates in the summer and early fall. 


    Library: Supports Librarian and trains parents to work in the library, assisting the librarian and children. 


    Lost & Found: Works with the citizenship committee to collect and return lost items. Unclaimed clothing is donated to local charities.  


    Marquee: Updates the school Marquee.


    Membership: Coordinate the membership campaign in August and September; encourage all Encinal families and teachers to donate to the PTO. 


    Newsletter: Gathers news items and school calendar events for the weekly Encinal school newsletter; designs and edits the newsletter. 

     

    Picture Day: Coordinates volunteers for the school picture day.


    Spelling Bee:  Organizes Encinal’s annual spelling bee. 


    Spirit Wear: Sells items (e.g. t-shirts, magnets) imprinted with the Encinal name and logo to promote school spirit.  Manages Spirit Wear online store on the Encinal website. 


    Staff Appreciation: Coordinates several luncheons, treats, and other activities to show appreciation to our faculty and staff. 


    Webmaster: Maintains the Encinal website.

     

    Yearbook: Collects photos from school events and creates the school yearbook full of pictures and memories of classmates, friends, teachers and staff. Yearbooks are published and sold in the spring.
