Giving to Our Schools
California classifies the Menlo Park City School District as “community funded,” which means only a small part of our budget comes from state and federal funds (12%). The vast majority (88%) of MPCSD's funding comes from the local community, including through parcel and property taxes (80%), as well as generous contributions to the One Community Campaign (OCC), our district’s annual fundraiser.
Specifically, the OCC helps generate a grant from the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation (MPAEF) to our district, contributing a critical 5% of the annual budget. Thanks to our community's financial investment in the OCC, our schools are able to: attract, develop, and retain excellent classroom teachers; offer music, & art classes as well as performing art & middle school elective opportunities; provide nurses and counselors at each site; and much more. Additionally, the OCC funds each school’s PTO, providing community building events, enrichment programming, classroom supplies and more. These opportunities simply do not exist at most California public schools.
