Recognition & Honors
National Blue Ribbon
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, in existence since 1982, celebrates many of America's most successful schools. Its goal is to promote and support the improvement of education in America.
Laurel Elementary School received the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2016.
Encinal Elementary School received the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2007.
Hillview Middle School received the National Blue Ribbon Award in 1999-2000.
California School Recognition Programs
The California School Recognition Programs was created in 1985 to communicate and reinforce the priorities of the State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Each year, it identifies and honors some of the state's most exemplary and inspiring public schools.
Encinal received the California Distinguished School Award for 2006, 2018, and 2023 and received the California Gold Ribbon Award in 2016
Laurel received the California Distinguished School Award for 2007, 2014, and 2023
Oak Knoll received the California Distinguished School Award for 2014, 2019, and 2023
Hillview received the California Distinguished School Award in 2009 and the Gold Ribbon Award in 2015. Hillview has received 8 Distinguished School awards. Hillview was also an Apple Distinguished School, 2017-2019.
Kent Awards
The Kent Awards are presented by the San Mateo County School Boards Association in recognition of innovative teaching programs developed by a school. All four schools have received several Kent awards.
In 2018, Encinal won a Kent Award for the New Games Program.
In 2017, Hillview won a Kent Award for Restorative Practices and Restoriative Justice programs.
In 2016, the District won a Kent Award for District-Wide Tier 3 Positive Behavior Intervetion programs.
In 2015, Oak Knoll won a Kent Award for the social-emotional learning curriculum and annual themes.
In 2014, Laurel won a Kent Award for the Life Skills Program.
In 2013, Encinal won a Kent award for the Fourth and Fifth Grade Advisory Program.
In 2009, Laurel won a Kent Award for their success at Differentiated Instruction.
In 2008, Hillview won a Kent Award for the Character Education Program, Oak Knoll won for Wellness Wednesday, and the District won a Kent for the 21st Century Classroom Project.
In 2007, the District won a Kent Award for our Inclusion Program for Students with Disabilities.
In 2006, Hillview won a Kent Award for the Renaissance Faire, a social studies experience for our 7th graders.
In 2005, Encinal won a Kent Award for the Community Book Read program
