WILLY HAUG - PRINCIPAL
I am thrilled to be starting my 23rd year at Hillview Middle School! Arriving in 1996, I began by teaching 7th grade core. Over the years, I taught 8th grade core, French, photography, drama exploratory, and PE, and I served four years as co-Student Activities Director. In 1995, I earned National Board Certification for Early Adolescent English-Language Arts. This variety of assignments gave me valuable insight into both core academic and elective classes. In 2009, I had the opportunity to serve as an interim Vice Principal at Hillview, assuming the role of VP in 2010, and then of Associate Principal in 2014. Now, in my role of Principal, which I first assumed in 2015, I am fortunate to inspire and empower this school that I love so dearly.
I received a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley (As unpopular as it may be to say this on the Peninsula, GO BEARS!), with a minor in French. From there I went on to earn a Masters in Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. More recently, I earned my Masters in Educational Administration from San Jose State University.
Born in New Jersey, I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before heading west. I now live in Redwood City with my very patient wife, who also works with youth as a therapist. We welcomed our daughter Abigail into the world in 2016 - she was born on the day of Back to School Night that year - and we also dote on Lila, our lovable terrier mix.
