Hillview offers a number of after-school programs to assist students with homework completion, to give them targeted support in math, and to support their social and emotional development. Some of these programs are drop-in services, while others require a referral from our counselors or administrative team.
Hillview also provides a late bus that students in the various after-school program can take home. This bus is free of charge to Hillview students. Click on the following LINK for the late bus stops and schedule.
Homework Center: M, Tu - 3:15 - 4:45; W, Th - 2:30 - 4:30
Homework Center is a drop-in program housed in the Hillview library. It is a quiet environment where students have access to textbooks and computers, and where they can get their homework started or finished. Supervised by a Hillview staff member, the Homework Center does not provide targeted help with academics, though certainly, the monitor and adult volunteers will give as much help of they can, if asked. Math Clinic: M, Tu - 3:15 - 4:45; W, Th - 2:30 - 4:30
Math Clinic provides targeted support for all levels of math. Supervised by a retired math teacher and assisted by high school-age counselors, the Math Clinic is a great place for students to go to get help with math concepts. It is a drop-in program, but we will also refer students to Math Clinic is they need help. Math Clinic takes place in the "Tank," a glassed-in room in the Hillview Library.
Hawk Stars: M, Tu - 3:15 - 4:45; W, Th - 2:30 - 4:30
Hawk Stars is a program for sixth-grade students who need help with their homework. We have a wonderful group of Menlo-Atherton Key Club members who staff this program, assisting 6th graders with everything from binder organization, to time management, to directed support in various academic subjects. Students are referred to Hawk Stars through their 6th-grade academy teachers and our counseling department. Hawk Stars will meet in the Hillview Library.
Flight School: M, Tu - 3:15 - 4:45; W, Th - 2:30 - 4:30
Flight School is an after-school mentoring program that pairs a small group of students of the same gender with a young adult mentor. In Flight School, students do get an opportunity to get started on their homework, but they also benefit from the bond they form with their mentor, who will give students guidance in emotional and social areas. It's not uncommon for Flight School students to take a break and play some basketball or some other activity. Students are referred to Flight School through our counselors or administrative team.
