Karen Clancy, Assistant Principal of Oak Knoll School
An educator with tremendous creativity, enthusiasm and strong relationship skills, Karen joined the Menlo Park City School District as a first grade teacher in 1997. Born in Natick, Massachusetts and raised from the age of 5 in Hayward, California, Karen comes from a huge, loving Irish family with many cousins all over the world. Karen started her teaching career in 1994 after student teaching at Foster City Elementary and Encinal School. She taught a year of second grade in Pleasanton and two years of first grade in Pacifica before being hired at Oak Knoll School. Karen is passionate about making learning fun while using best practices in teaching and learning.
After teaching grades 1, 3, & 5 in traditional classroom settings, Karen took on the exciting challenge of starting Oak Knoll School’s first 3/4/5 multiage program. Being part of something that was new and innovative with permission to “think outside the box” was especially intriguing to Karen. After 12 fabulous, inspirational years in the multiage, Karen was ready for a new challenge in her career. The opportunity for Instructional Coach at Oak Knoll School became available and with Karen’s experience at Oak Knoll and within the district this position of supporting teachers was the perfect fit for her. After one year as Instructional Coach, Karen jumped at the opportunity to help lead Oak Knoll School as Assistant Principal. She is thrilled to be part of the leadership team at the school she has loved and called home for 25 years. Karen has long established treasured relationships with staff, students and families at Oak Knoll School. Greeting all “otters” with a welcome smile and a warm hello is a regular occurrence each day as Karen roams the school grounds.
Karen has a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from San Francisco State University, a teaching credential from Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont and a Masters Degree in Reading Education with a Reading Specialist Credential from Cal State Hayward. Karen lives in Millbrae and loves to create crafts, crochet, read, spend time with family and friends, and travel- especially to her beloved New England.
